The Stockstadt Church

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Leonhard is the former parish church of Stockstadt am Main in the Lower Franconian district of Aschaffenburg . Stockstadt is a single parish in the deanery of Aschaffenburg-West and, like the entire Aschaffenburg areas, came from the old Archdiocese of Mainz to the Diocese of Würzburg in 1814 . The church is one of the architectural monuments of Stockstadt and is registered under the number D-6-71-155-5 in the Bavarian list of monuments .

history

A first church in Stockstadt existed outside the village and bore the patronage of Saints Marcellinus and Peter , the patrons of the Seligenstadt monastery . Due to the desire to attend the church service within the walls, a Leonhard chapel was built in the Middle Ages . This fell into disrepair after several renovations over time. That is why the Archdiocese of Mainz decided to build a new church in 1746. However, this was not built until 1773. The late Gothic church tower was retained and heightened. The influx of refugees after the Second World War made it necessary to rebuild the Maria Rosenkranzkönigin church between 1952 and 1954. Since then, the St. Leonhard Church has been used on special occasions, e.g. B. Weddings . In 1964 and 2007, the church underwent major renovations. On May 31, 2008, Bishop Friedhelm Hofmann consecrated the new altar.

description

The church tower is in the west of the nave . An octagonal upper floor was placed on the square base. A sandstone figure of the church patron St. Leonhard is attached to the tower. The choir of the church with attached sacristy is in the east. At the high altar stand on pedestals the Saints Joseph and Nepomuk . To the right and left of the popular altar are figures of Saints Marcellinus and Peter. The side altars were removed from the church in 1964. However, the church contains a pulpit and an organ prospect in the Rococo style . The pipe organ installed in 1964 is no longer playable. Today a digital instrument is used, the speakers of which are hidden in the old organ. The peal consists of three bells consecrated in 1864 .
