The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Mary's Birth is on the Kirchberg in the south of Lengenfeld unterm Stein , a village in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia . The parish Lengenfeld unterm Stein belongs to the deanery Dingelstaedt of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erfurt .

The previous building was built in 1517 at the latest. The church tower was built in 1661 and changed in 1719, as indicated by an inscription on the portal in the tower. Today's central building on cruciform ground plan was 1882-84 to designs by the architect Hartmann from Worbis in neo-Gothic forms in ornamental built. It was consecrated on August 11, 1898 and is part of the Südeichsfelder Krippenweg . The lower floors of the old tower, built from rubble stones in the northwest, were retained. The end of the choir is three-sided. Some tracery windows are available. All roofs are slated .

Organ and rose window

The interior is spanned with a ribbed vault on round pillars . Most of the church furnishings date from the 19th century. Joseph Richwien painted the 16 pictures of the Stations of the Cross . The organ with 26 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built by Robert Knauf & Sohn in 1885 and rebuilt by Wiegand Helfenbein in 1935. Major renovations took place in 1905, 1934 and all of the interior in 1961–72.
