The Roman Catholic side church of St. Maria (Latin Beatae Mariae Virginis ) in the Regensburg district of Irl is a listed hall church that was built in 1759 in rococo style. It is also looked after by the parish of St. Martin in Barbing .

history

The core of the Marienkirche in Irl goes back to a late medieval building, the exact time of which is unknown. The church was "half derelict because of its age" in 1584 and was therefore thoroughly restored by the Regensburg Cathedral Chapter , as described by a stone tablet above today's church portal .

The current church was largely rebuilt in the 1750s under the cathedral vicar and Barbinger parish provisional Johann Michael Scherbauer. The consecration of the Rococo building has been handed down from August 1759 .

description

architecture

The small rococo church is a hall building with a hipped gable roof to the west . On the east side there is a retracted oval choir , the Gothic ribbed vault of which was taken over from the previous building. Above the presbytery sits a slender roof turret with an onion dome .

Furnishing

The equipment of the little church includes three altars, which were created in the 1750s in the Rococo style. A wooden figure of the Mother of God with child stands on the high altar . When this came about is in the dark. It is either originally Gothic or was recreated in the Gothic style during the Baroque or Rococo periods. In Altar extract is a relief representation of the Holy Trinity to see. The north (left) side altar contains an altar panel with a depiction of St. Francis Xavier . On the right side altar there is a figure of St. John Nepomuk ; on the extract the coat of arms of the Counts of Lerchenfeld .

The ornate pulpit is also a work of the Rococo. A relief with images from the parable of the sower can be seen on the pulpit . On the chancel arch one depends Madonna del Rosario from the ceiling, whose exact origin is unknown. The rococo-style painting of the walls and the ceiling was only rediscovered during a church renovation in 1997/98. The large ceiling fresco, the Assumption of Mary is, it is the painter's workshop. Gebhard from Prüfening attributed; however, there is no evidence of this. Scenes from the life of Mary are painted on the balustrade of the gallery .
