The Church of St. Mary or Siebenmerz Mariä is a Catholic branch church in the Saarland city of Friedrichsthal , Saarbrücken regional association . It is a church dedicated to Mary, dedicated to the memory of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, mother of Jesus . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

The predecessor of today's church was the parish church of St. Michael , built from 1870 to 1873 according to plans by the architect Carl Friedrich Müller ( Saarlouis ) , which was demolished in 1929 due to dilapidation .

St. Mary's Church was built as a successor from 1927 to 1928 . The plans for the church building came from the architect Peter Marx (Trier) , who was also responsible for the All Saints Church in neighboring Sulzbach .
On December 30, 1928, the completed church was ceremoniously handed over to its destination.

The free-standing bell tower was only built in 1956 according to plans by the architect Fritz Thoma (Trier) and demolished again at the beginning of February 2016 because it was dilapidated.

Church building

The usable area of the church building, including the gallery , is around 700 m 2 and offers space for a good 2100 people.

What is striking about the exterior is the exposed brickwork and the roof turret over the choir area .

The interior is determined by a mighty barrel vault that spans the nave . In addition, the nave is divided into two very narrow aisles . The chancel is also spanned by a barrel vault, which is also coffered . The back wall of the chancel is determined by arcades , in which mostly angel figures are placed. There is a crucifixion group above the arcades .

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1955 by the French organ builder Haerpfer & Erman ( Boulay ) as Opus 510. The Kegelladen instrument has 44 (46) registers , divided into 3 manuals and pedal . The game and stop action is electro-pneumatic. The disposition is as follows:
