description

A church in Herrnschwende is mentioned as early as 1253. Count Heinrich von Kirchberg then abandoned in favor of the pin of St. Peter and Paul in Jechaburg the church patronage . Later, the Coming Griefstedt appears as the church patron. The church dedicated to St. Martin collapsed in the middle of the 18th century. In 1749/50 the new building of the externally unadorned hall church was built from unplastered rubble stones and using spoil from the previous building.

The low bell tower to the west was rebuilt in 1864. The bells were melted down for war purposes during the First World War . In 1933 the church received two new bells, which in turn were melted down for war purposes in 1942. In 1947 the big bell could be brought back to Herrnschwende.

The church was remodeled in 1950. The tower received an attachment for a community room and a tent roof above it . The nave was given a hipped gable roof . The organ was moved to the lower gallery because the upper gallery was omitted.

A pulpit altar belongs to the church furnishings . The pulpit is flanked by columns and pilasters . There is a small crucifix on the sound cover . Carved figures There are carved figures of Moses , Aaron , Peter and John above the side passages . The predella houses a small signed painting by Veit Latterich with the crucifixion.

The marbled square baptismal font is supported by a fully sculpted group of carved figures, it represents the baptism of Jesus . It is a popular work of the 18th century.

The organ with 18 registers , divided into two manuals and a pedal , was built by Wiegand Helferbein in 1933.
