St. Maternus (Ürzig)
The Catholic parish church of St. Maternus in Ürzig , a local community on the Middle Moselle in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), was built in 1866/67. The church at St. Maternusstraße 5 is a protected architectural monument .
history
A chapel in Ürzig has survived in the 13th century . In a visitation report in 1475, a church was reported whose nave was renovated after 1712 because it was in disrepair . When the church was rebuilt, St. Maternus ordained , in the years 1866-67 the medieval remained west tower received. Ürzig disposal until late in the 20th century next to its own pastor a Frühmesser . He lived in the early knife house attached to the church, which is still used by the parish today. Ürzig was an independent parish. From 1983 she belonged to the parish community of Wehlen , Graach and Ürzig and since 2013 to the parish community of Bernkastel-Kues .
architecture
The Gothic tower, probably from the 15th century, is raised in two steps and divided by four cornices made of stone . The four sound openings are made with tracery and all parts of the windows are profiled. The tower is crowned by a tall, eight-sided slate helmet. Since the church was built on the slope, the cross-vaulted tower hall is below street level. Small neo-Gothic halls with portals are built in front of the north and south sides .
In the new church, built according to plans by building inspector Dallmer, only the baptismal font from 1500, which was made from local sandstone , remains of the old church .

organ
The organ was built in 1867 by the organ builder Heinrich Voltmann from Klausen and was last restored by the organ builder Hubert Fasen . The instrument has 21 stops on two manual works and a pedal.
