Heinrich Voltmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich Voltmann (born April 1, 1830 in Kattenstroth , † July 15, 1909 in Klausen ) was a German organ builder .

Life

Heinrich Voltmann was a son of the married couple Heinrich Christoph Voltmann and his wife Anna Margarete, geb. Meyer to Berenz. When and where exactly Voltmann learned the trade of organ building is not known. However, it is assumed that he came to Klausen as a journeyman organ builder on the Walz around 1850 in order to complete the new construction of the organ in the Klausen pilgrimage church . Here he not only got to know the organ builder Meinolph Knaup (1824-1858), with whom he settled, but also with some certainty the organ builder Heinrich Wilhelm Breidenfeld , who was the market leader at the time , with whom Knaup had worked as an assistant in 1848 . In the Knaups organ workshop, Voltmann completed the organ for the Klausen pilgrimage church in 1852 for an amount of 2589 thalers .

After Meinolph Knaup's early death in 1858, Voltmann took over his workshop and went into business for himself. In 1880 he bought the house in Klausen where the workshop was located. In addition to maintenance and repair work, Heinrich Voltmann's workshop also carried out numerous new and reconstructed organs, of which around 20 could be identified between 1865 and 1900. Around 1890, the journeyman organ builder Anton Turk from Kostreinitz in Lower Styria came to the pilgrimage site of Klausen and worked in Voltmann's organ building workshop . Until Voltmann's death in 1909, they both ran the business together. Turk later ran the organ building workshop on his own.

Organs

Voltmann only built one or two manual loop shutter organs with mechanical game and stop action . It was noticeable that he usually dispensed with thirds or mixtures containing thirds in the disposition .
