Anton Turk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anton Turk (born January 17, 1868 in Kostreinitz ( Lower Styria ), † September 12, 1940 in Klausen ) was an Austrian - German organ builder .

Life

Anton Turk was a son of the carpenter Michael Turk from Kostreinitz in Lower Styria. After the end of his apprenticeship as an organ builder on August 22, 1886, Turk received the apprenticeship letter from his teacher Franz Kosak with the addition that he should be recognized as a properly trained journeyman organ builder and willing to make the best possible progress in all places . It is not known exactly when Turk came to the pilgrimage site of Klausen to work in Heinrich Voltmann's organ building workshop , presumably during his traveling years . He and Voltmann built their first joint organ in the Lieser Petruskirche in 1890.

From 1900 he ran the workshop together with Voltmann until his death in 1909. After that Anton Turk changed the design of the organs, unlike Volt man only one or two manual loop chest organs with mechanical game - and key action had built. Turk subsequently only built organs with the pneumatic stop action invented by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll and also developed his own diaphragm shutter . From the 1920s, Turk offered rebuilding and enlarging organs based on the new multiplex system . After Turk's death in 1940, his son Heinrich Turk (1904–1974), who was also an organ builder, continued his father's business. With a few exceptions, Heinrich dealt with the maintenance and repair of organs; an organ he built in Klüsserath from 1949/1950 is still preserved today. After Heinrich's death in 1974, the Voltmann-Turk company went out completely.
