The Catholic parish church of St. Medardus in Wißkirchen , a district of Euskirchen in the Euskirchen district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), was originally built in the Middle Ages . The St. Church dedicated to Medardus is a protected architectural monument .

history

The church goes back to a Romanesque hall church from the 11th century. During renovation work in the late 1960s, six previously unknown stone windows with wooden frames were found. The investigations showed that the windows belong to the Romanesque building era. The church in Wißkirchen, which was owned by Siegburg Abbey as early as 1181 , is older than previously assumed.

The church choir dates from the beginning of the 16th century and the nave from the 18th century. The west tower was built in 1880 according to plans by the architect August Carl Lange (1834-1884).

In 1970/71 the church, which was damaged by the Second World War and the earthquake of 1951, was completely restored. The outer brickwork was plastered and painted red. Further renovations took place in the 1980s and 1990s.
