St. Brictius (Euenheim)
The Catholic parish church of St. Brictius in Euenheim , a district of Euskirchen in the Euskirchen district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), was built in 1875/76. The St. Brictius church is a protected architectural monument .
history
The old single-nave church from 1711, for which the Cologne Ursulastift had the right of patronage , had become too small and had no sacristy . In 1869 the church council decided to build a new building and commissioned the architect August Carl Lange (1834–1884) with the planning. The church in Euenheim was built in 1875/76, during the ongoing construction of Cologne Cathedral and the associated enthusiasm for Gothic architecture. The consecration took place after the Kulturkampf on June 4, 1891.
architecture
The church, built in the neo-Gothic style, has three naves . It connects brick masonry in the surfaces with stone on the bases , capitals , arches , belts , consoles and tracery in the window . The balanced position of the columns with their capitals in a row of arcades , the partition arches between the naves, the sequence of tracery windows and the transverse arches in the side naves and the ribbed vaults structure the nave . The side aisles open into chapels. In the south is the sacristy and in the north the parament room .
Furnishing
In 1880, the architect August Carl Lange was commissioned to design the high altar , side altars, pulpit and communion bench . The high altar was made in 1883 by the Cologne sculptor Mörs and is decorated with sculptures. The occiput relic of St. Brictius came to Euenheim in 1896, it is contained in a reliquary head .
organ
The organ was made by the organ builder Franz Joseph Schorn (1834–1905) from Kuchenheim . It was installed after 1895 and its neo-Gothic construction with tracery and cracks stands out from the simple organ gallery .
Leaded glass window
The three choir windows were designed in 1994 by the Bonn artist Egbert Verbeek (born 1953).
