Franz Joseph Schorn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Joseph Schorn (* 1834 ; † 1905 ) was an organ builder from Kuchenheim near Euskirchen in the Eifel .

Live and act

Franz Joseph Schorn first completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter with his father and was trained in Viersen with Johann Müller, in Cologne with Franz Wilhelm Sonreck and in Luxembourg as an organ builder. In 1868 he started his own business. He presumably worked mostly alone and was only supported temporarily by his younger brother Johann and a cousin named Christian. Schorn organs possess all slider chests and mechanical tracker action . Although the technology was no longer up-to-date during his lifetime, they are considered evidence of outstanding craftsmanship .

Schorn created a total of about 21 organs, 18 of which have been preserved. Its organs, which have been preserved, have been partially restored to their original state and are considered evidence of late romantic organ building . On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of his death, Vol. III from the CD series Historische Schorn-Orgeln im Rheinland was recorded by the organist Kurt-Ludwig Forg.
