St. Michael in Igenhausen

The Catholic parish church of St. Michael is a monument in Igenhausen near Hollenbach .

history

The place Hügenhausen is mentioned for the first time in a document in 1100. The choir and steeple of the church date back to the first half of the 16th century, while the nave was built in the middle of the 18th century. The part with the gallery was added in 1846. The original bells from the first half of the 16th century were melted down during the First World War ; today's are from the years 1926 and 1950. In the course of a renovation in 1970 a people's altar was set up. This was renewed during a further renovation of the interior in 1981/82. The two side altars, which in the meantime stood on loan in other churches, were returned and renovated in 2000.

Building description

St. Michael is a flat-roofed hall building with a retracted choir. The northern saddle roof tower is 27.5 meters high and has stepped gables structured by tracery friezes .

Furnishing

The ceiling frescoes from 1756 are by Ignaz Paur. It is the apparition of St. Michael is depicted on Monte Gargano and in the nave the battle of the archangel with Satan . On the south wall there is a painted canopy with putti . The pictures of the apostles Matthew and Matthias, as well as the ceiling painting above the west gallery from 1953 are by an unknown artist. The high altar , like the pulpit from 1750/60, shows Saint Michael and the excerpt of the Annunciation . The paintings are presumably from the hand of Ignaz Baldauf . The figures of Saints Catherine and Barbara are from the beginning of the 18th century, the Pietà and the figure of Saint Sebastian from the second half of the 15th century. The crucifixion group was created around 1510/20.
