description

The Teutonic Order founded the first chapel soon after 1240 , which was granted an indulgence privilege in 1371 and became a foundation in 1451 . Instead of the previous medieval building from the 14th century, Heinrich XI. von Reuß-Schleiz built a hall church in 1710 as a simple rectangular building with large arched windows. In the choir , parts of the masonry go back to the previous building. The sacristy in the east was added later. The church has a sturdy square choir tower with an eight-sided upper floor with the tower clock and the belfry . On top of it sits a slate-covered hood with an open lantern , crowned with a tower ball . A small bronze bell from the late 19th century and two cast steel bells from 1920 hang in the bell cage. The nave has two-story galleries from the construction period. The choir is spanned with a groin vault. The interior is simple. In the 1950s the church was changed. The pulpit altar was removed and replaced by an altar with a wire sculpture depicting a crucifix . During a renovation, the wire sculpture was given a new place on the outside wall of the church. The interior is dominated by a painted crucifixion triptych . A wheel chandelier from the 19th century hangs on the ceiling of the church interior . The organ with 10 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built in 1900 by Ernst Poppe & Sohn . Since the organ is currently unplayable, an electronic organ built by Hans Versteegt was donated to the community.
