History and culture

Hausen was first mentioned in a document in 1143. Before Thuringia was founded, Hausen belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha ( Gotha Office ) and since 1974 it has been a municipality with Bufleben and Pfullendorf.

The village church of St. Nikolai (coord .: ) was built around 1148 as a small chapel. In 1605 the tower was rebuilt and the church was expanded to its present size by 1661. The church has three ogival windows on the south side and a former round arched door, which was bricked up except for the upper area, which is now designed as a window. There are small window openings on the first floor of the tower and large rectangular windows on the second floor. The top of the tower forms a tail dome with a lantern attached, which is now closed, with a gold-colored tower button and a wrought-iron weather vane on top . In 1857, Joh. Chr. Berles and Barb. Marg. Berles of the church an organ that cost 600 thalers. Due to the size of the new organ, the church had to be rebuilt. In 1969 the church tower was re-covered and the church clock was repaired.

On April 1, 1974, Hausen was incorporated into Bufleben . With the incorporation of the community of Bufleben into the rural community of Nessetal on January 1, 2019, Hausen became a district of this.
