Westhausen is a district of the rural community Nessetal in the Thuringian district of Gotha .
location
Westhausen is on the federal highway 247 between Gotha and Bad Langensalza in the valley of the Nesse . To the north of Westhausen lies the Ballstädter Höhe (309 meters above sea level).
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 974.
In the village pond there are remains of a high medieval manor house. The castle had a security function for the place and the road leading from Gotha to the north (Bad Langensalza) (today the B 247 ). It belonged to the acquisition by the Lords of Wangenheim until the abolition of patrimonial mid-19th century to Wangenheim's court in the duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha .
The most striking building is the Protestant Vitus Church on the northern edge of the village, the tower of which is visible from afar.
In 2012, seven large wind turbines with 119 m hub height and 56 m long rotor blades were built near Westhausen .
On January 1, 2019, the previously independent communities of Westhausen, Ballstädt , Bufleben , Friedrichswerth , Goldbach , Haina , Hochheim , Remstädt , Wangenheim , Brüheim and Warza were merged to form the rural community of Nessetal . Westhausen was a member of the Central Nessetal administrative community .

In June 2010 Carsten Laue (Free Voting Community Westhausen) was elected as the new mayor, he was confirmed in office in 2016 and was in office until the community was dissolved.
Protestant church
The Ev.-Luth. On January 1, 2013, the Westhausen parish was merged with ten other parishes in the area to form the Evangelical Emmaus parish of Goldbach-Wangenheim. The congregation celebrates church services every two weeks. There are monthly invitations to the community afternoon. At the fair, usually at the beginning of November, the community celebrates a happy service with the young people in the village. At the end of this service, the assembled congregation moves to the memorial stone for the dead of the wars next to the church property and holds a memorial for the dead, combined with a prayer for peace.
