St. Nicholas

The Church of St. Nicholas is a Roman Catholic parish church . It is in Geismar , a district of the town of Geisa in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . The parish Geismar part of the deanery Dingelstaedt in the Diocese of Erfurt .

The hall church was built in 1863. The facade tower on a square floor plan with an eight-sided upper floor dates from the first half of the 16th century. It is covered with a triple, slate-covered onion from the 18th century. In the belfry depend on three floors five Eisenhart cast bells . Their striking notes are D sharp, F sharp, G sharp, a sharp and c sharp². They were cast by Schilling & Lattermann in 1957 .

The nave was extended in 1908 by two axes and the apse in the east. The choir was redesigned in 1965. The neo-Gothic high altar has half-reliefs from 1490. On them are depicted: In the middle Nicholas , on the left the Annunciation , Mauritius and Cyriacus , on the right Katharina , Margaretha , Christophorus and Sebastian . Baroque candlesticks stand to one side . The right side altar, created around 1750, has a crucifixion group in the excerpt . In four rows there are figures from a former Fourteen Holy Helper altar and a crescent Madonna from the 17th century. The pulpit from the second half of the 17th century is decorated with figures of the church fathers . The baptismal font, created around 1520, is decorated with tracery . The figures of Boniface as well as Michael and Josef were created around 1650. The Pietà is from the 18th century. The stained glass in the choir was created around 1908. The organ was built by Friedrich Knauf in 1864 .
