St. Pankratius in Kaisersesch in Rhineland-Palatinate is a Catholic parish church . The neo-Romanesque step hall in Balduinstraße was designed by the architect Lambert von Fisenne between 1898 and 1900 . The parish church is the seat of the parish community Kaisersesch. She belongs to the deanery of Cochem in the diocese of Trier . In the Middle Ages, Kaisersesch originally belonged to the Hambuch parish of the Benedictine Abbey of Prüm . This fell to the Cistercian convent Rosenthal near Binningen in 1251 . One year after the city charter was granted in 1321, the Pankratius Church was then detached from the Hambuch district and given its own parish rights.

history

When it was elevated to a parish, a church was built in 1321/22 and, like the old chapel in Esch, consecrated to St. Pancras . In the years around 1700 it fell into disrepair and was renewed in 1778. This new building was aligned with the choir to the north; the tower was flush with the south front on the west side of the church. The high altar, side altars and pulpit were consecrated in 1789 by Elector and Archbishop Clemens Wenzeslaus . In 1899/1900 a new building was built, including the old tower.

Furnishing

Probably the oldest surviving pieces of furniture are two crucifixes, one from the 17th century, 1.10 meters high, and another from around 1700, 1.05 meters high. There is also a 90 centimeter high Madonna and Child from the beginning of the 18th century.

The liturgical vestments of St. Pankratius include two chasubles from the Cologne area , both from the 16th century. St. Bartholomew and John the Baptist are depicted on the front bar of one of the chasers . The rod on the back contains a crucifix with the heading “Pater in manus tuas” (Father, in your hands), under the cross Mary, supported by John , left and right the lance with which Jesus was pierced, and the rod with the vinegar sponge. The picture at the bottom shows St. Barbara . The heads of the figures are made of silk embroidery. The other, red chasuble is made of brocade ; the figures are sewn on and partly embroidered in silk, with St. Catherine and St. Pankratius on the front . The back staff shows Jesus on the cross, to the left of the arm as a half-length Mary and to the right an angel with the banner “Ave Maria”, above the evangelist Matthew as herald of the Passion. At the feet of Jesus Mary, two women and the centurion are depicted, at the bottom King David and the heads of the prophets.

window

The lead glass windows were made by the Wilhelm Heinrich Jansen glass painting company in Trier from 1903 to 1912 .

tower

The flank tower in the west dates from the beginning of the 14th century and has Romanesque shapes. The specialty is a 24 meter high spire , the construction beams of which sag under rotation, similar to the church of St. Clemens in Mayen . On July 26, 2013, the spire was dismantled because the wooden structure was rotten and needed to be replaced. In addition, the bell cage erected in 1952 and the vibrations of the steel bells purchased in the same year had impaired the tower construction. In 2014 the church received a new tower roof structure, which has the typical curvature again, as well as three new bronze bells.
