The Catholic parish church was placed under the patronage of St. Patroclus of Troyes , like the much older Patroclus Church in Kirchhörde, which has been Protestant since the 16th century. Due to the increase in the population after the beginning of industrialization, the Catholic Kirchhörder population wanted to found their own community. The first plans for a parish in Kirchhörde existed as early as 1937. During the war in 1941, the dean Scharz submitted a request to the Archdiocese of Paderborn that a mass should be read in the Wichmann room on every Sunday and public holiday in Kirchhörde. However, this entry was rejected. Two years later, Paderborn agreed to a new request. The St. Patrokli Parish Vicarie was established. At the beginning the services took place in the Protestant Patroclus Church. The first mass on April 26, 1943 on Easter Sunday was interrupted by an air raid and could only take place at 6 p.m.

After the war and after about 180 believers attended every service, it became more and more important for the congregation to have its own church. The first divine room of his own was made available in his villa by Kirchhörder entrepreneur and politician Florian Klöckner . However, the rooms were still partly occupied by the British Army. As the number of visitors to the services continued to rise, the desire for a church grew. Meta Klöckner transferred a plot of land on the Dimberg in Kirchhörde to the community for the purpose of building a church. The property could only be entered with the permission of a neighbor, who refused this. The community found a new piece of land at Truxhof and was able to acquire it in 1948, including some additional areas, so that a plot of around 5000 m² was finally available for building the church.

Alfred Kalmbacher was won as the architect . His first draft was rejected by the church council in 1950. The second draft from June 1951 was well received. The new church should be 23 m long and 11.8 m wide. 176 seats were provided in the central nave and another 54 in the gallery. Volunteers started the first leveling work in 1951. The demolition of an underground bunker for 250 people from the Second World War caused great difficulties . The client was the mother parish, the St. Clemens parish of Hombruch .

Quarry stones from the demolition of the bunker were sorted and reused. The Hörder Bergwerks- und Hütten-Verein donated 40 sacks of white lime hydrate and delivered 5,725 concrete blocks, 6,000 fired new bricks were bought, as well as 5,000 bricks cleaned by rubble women . The topping-out ceremony for the rectory was celebrated in November 1951, and work on the church began at the same time. Laying the foundation stone for the church was on January 6, 1952. On September 26, 1954, the new church was Franz Hengsbach consecrated . A list by the architect Alfred Kalmbacher from January 1953 shows that the cost of building the church was DM 99,685.90. Two large donations, one by Meta Klöckner in the amount of 50,000 DM, one anonymously in the amount of 40,000 DM, in addition numerous donations by the parishioners in the amount of 40,000 DM and a grant from Paderborn of 15,000 DM secured the building of the church and all other incurred Costs.

Numerous donations in kind helped equip the church. Donations for the altar and tabernacle , communion bench and confessional were made by Kirchhörder families. A group of working women donated the windows in the nave. In 1956 the church received an organ from the Anton Feith company .

Kirchhörde has been an independent parish since 1984. The parishes of St. Patrokli and the Holy Family in Brünninghausen together form the Dortmund-Süd pastoral network.

architecture

Rosette in the gable above the entrance

The tower has an almost square floor plan and is provided with sound openings for the sound of bells . It towers above the church building, which is roofed with a gable roof, by a few meters and leans against it laterally. The interior of the church can only be reached through a paradise porch decorated with a glass window . About this porch one with rich decorated tracery decorated rose window , the gabled façade .

In 2012, extensive renovations were carried out during the installation of the new organ. The chancel wall was redesigned, the interior was re-based on the Erstausmalung taken . The organ stage was given a new railing, and the wooden ceiling was brightened by church painters with a varnish-like coating.

In 1957 the windows in the former baptistery in the tower and in 1958 the windows in the choir were designed by August Pigulla, the windows in the nave and the confessional chapel were designed by Heinz Dohmen in 1995. In the church there is a Patroclus reliquary, which was transferred to the Patroclus Shrine in 1866 Soest was taken.

The 2.2 m high cross with the Christ body was made in 1952 by the sculptor Herbert Wagner from Siegsdorf .

Bells

The community was not informed of the purchase of the bells. This should come as a surprise to the believers. In 1952 the community was able to move out of the Klöckner villa and use the new church, even if it was not yet completely finished. When the parishioners moved in, they were received by bells ringing. The two bells come from the Hamburg bell cemetery. One bell, cast in 1605, came from Tanndorf in Silesia , the other, cast in 1636, from Aniram in the prelature of Schneidemühl .

The organ was built in 2012 by the organ building workshop Johannes Klais . The instrument has 22 registers on two manuals and a pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical. The organ prospect was designed by the diocesan master builder Emanuela Freiin von Branca and the Aachen architect Odilo Siebigs.
