St. Peter and Paul (Garrel)
St. Peter and Paul in Garrel is the parish church of the Catholic parish of St. Johannes Baptist Garrel, which belongs to the Friesoythe deanery of the diocese of Münster .
History and description
The peasantry Garrel originally belonged to the parish Krapendorf with the parish church of St. Andrew . In Garrel there was a half-timbered chapel of unknown construction time with the patronage of John the Baptist , which was converted into a residential house after the construction of the new church in 1871.
The current church was built from 1869 to 1871 as a neo-Gothic hall church made of brick according to plans by the architect Johann Bernhard Hensen . In 1966 the church was enlarged, with the nave and tower preserved.
Furnishing
In the church there is a Pietà in the style of the late Mannerism , which comes from the St. Andreas Church in Cloppenburg (Krapendorf). It was donated in 1654 and was made by the same artist as the Pietà in St. Felizitas (Lüdinghausen) . Another Pietà, a Radiant Madonna and three figures of saints date from the 18th century . A large crucifix from 1854 is attributed to Wilhelm Achtermann .
