Johann Bernhard Hensen (born September 5, 1828 in Sögel , † January 16, 1870 in Osnabrück ) was a German architect and church builder.

Johann Bernhard Hensen was the son of Brinkitzer and community leader Hermann Henrich Hensen (* 1790) and his wife Margaretha, née Schleper (* 1801). The marriage had eight children; Johann Bernhard was the sixth child.

In addition to various secular buildings, Hensen made a name for himself in his short but very productive life as a church builder in the regions of Osnabrück , Emsland and in the Oldenburger Land . In 1855 he submitted a plan for the new church in Wachtum near Löningen and received his first order to build a church on his own. The Wachtum Church was to remain his only work in the neo-Romanesque style; his other works were created in the neo-Gothic style and were shaped by the Cologne Cathedral and the preferences of his sponsor Johann Georg Müller , Bishop of Münster.

Hensen was involved in the restoration of the Osnabrück Cathedral from 1856 to 1870 . He died at the age of 41 before the church building in his home town of Sögel could be completed.

In his honor, the Hensen memorial was erected in Sögel in 2002, created by Albert Radke. In addition, the Johann-Bernhard-Hensen Weg in Sögel was named after him.
