St. Peter and Paul in Scharrel , parish of Saterland , is a branch church of the Catholic parish of St. Jakobus, Saterland, which belongs to the Friesoythe deanery of the diocese of Münster .

history

All that is known about the previous building is that it was in poor condition as early as the 1650s. The current church was built from 1858 to 1860 according to plans by the architect Johann Bernhard Hensen . The church was consecrated in 1860. In 1869 the spire was blown down, in 1885 it was restored.

View from the west

The neo-Gothic hall church made of red brick has a four-bay nave , which is divided by cantoned pillars , and a projected west tower . The choir has a five-eighth closing .

Furnishing

The high altar and the Way of the Cross date from the time the new church was built, the baptismal font from 1894 and the side altars from the beginning of the 20th century. Older than the church building are the Pietà and two chandeliers made of brass from the 17th century.
