St. Petrus is the parish church of Behrungen , a district of the Grabfeld community in the southern Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in Thuringia .

history

A coat of arms carved in stone on the south wall of the nave with the key of Peter and the year 1519 is a reference to the first church building in Behrungen, which was expanded in 1618. The church was cremated during the Thirty Years War . In 1656 the church was consecrated again, as can be seen from the keystone in the Gothic archway of the portal on the north side. The church tower only got its present shape in 1715. In 1798 the church was rebuilt .

Building description

The rectangular hall church , covered with a gable roof , has a recessed choir with a polygonal finish. The choir is a knee wall of timber frame increases. The tower is north of the choir grown . He wears a bulbous hood on which a lantern is enthroned. A gaff head is located above the north window of the upper floor of the tower . The sacristy is located on the ground floor of the tower . Furnishing

The pulpit dates from the 2nd half of the 17th century. Behind the choir screen there is an altar retable , flanked on both sides by columns , on which the Lord's Supper is depicted. Life -size statues of Peter and Paul stand on the organ front from the 18th century . The organ builder Theodor Kühn from Schmiedefeld built the organ with 22 registers into the organ prospectus in 1899 , divided into 2 manuals and pedal .
