The Church of St. Petrus Canisius is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Landwasser district of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau . The complex, which is one of the cultural monuments of Baden-Württemberg, has a community center, adjoining rectory and kindergarten, and was built in 1969/70 according to plans by architect Rainer Disse in the then newly emerging Landwasser district. In 1986, a thorough renovation was necessary to remedy functional deficiencies and to complete the interior design.

The parish of St. Petrus Canisius belongs to the pastoral care unit Freiburg Northwest in the Freiburg deanery of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

inner space

The interior was designed in 1974 by the artist Florian Lechner mainly in fused glass and chrome-nickel steel . In the interior, the artist placed the emphasis on the number seven and the light symbolism according to the biblical words “So look that the light in you is not darkness.” ( Lk 11.36  EU ).

the altar area, raised from the rest of the church by a step, includes the central liturgical services: the altar itself, the tabernacle and the baptismal font .

1993 of which was Orgelwerkstatt Rieger from Vorarlberg built organ consecrated. It is set up next to the altar area and has 33 stops on two manuals and pedal and consists of a total of 2300 pipes .

Bells

The church has four bells that were cast in 1998 by the Bachert bell foundry in Karlsruhe and consecrated in 2000. As there is no church tower , they are housed in a cuboid-shaped bell chamber that lies above the main roof of the church. They have the somewhat unusual names for bells Persevera , family , preservation of creation , ecumenism . The bell ornament comes from the artist Florian Lechner.
