Varennes-sur-Amance is a French commune with 269 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Champagne-Ardenne ); it belongs to the Arrondissement of Langres and the canton of Chalindrey (until 2015 Varennes-sur-Amance ). The inhabitants are called Varennais .
geography
Varennes-sur-Amance is located about 42 kilometers southeast of Chaumont on the Petite Amance river , which borders the municipality to the east. Varennes-sur-Amance is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vicq in the north, Coiffy-le-Bas in the east and northeast, Chézeaux in the southeast, Champigny-sous-Varennes and Arbigny-sous-Varennes in the south, Marcilly-en-Bassigny in the west as well Celles-en-Bassigny in the north-west.
history
From 1972 Varennes-sur-Amance was part of the municipality of Terre-Natale with the villages of Champigny-sous-Varennes and Chézeaux . In 2012 this merger was canceled.
