economy
Located in the middle of a 50 hectare wicker growing area , which was founded by a monk in 1670, the wickerwork (wicker furniture and baskets) and other smaller craft businesses determine the economic strength of the small town. As the center of the French basket weaving trade, it has had a basket weaving school since 1906, the only one in France, the École nationale d'Osiériculture et de Vannerie , at which basket weavers from other European countries can also be trained. Basketry in Fayl-Billot experienced its heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries.
