The inhabitants are called Saint-Vallierois .

Saint-Vallier-sur-Marne is about 38 kilometers southeast of Chaumont . The Marne limits the municipality to the west. Saint-Vallier-sur-Marne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chatenay-Mâcheron and Saint-Maurice in the north, Culmont in the east, Chalindrey in the south-east, Balesmes-sur-Marne in the south and Langres in the west and north-west.
