Le Châtelet-sur-Meuse is a French commune with 150 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Langres .
geography
Le Châtelet-sur-Meuse is located at the source of the Meuse (Meuse) around 39 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Chaumont in the southeast of the Haute-Marne department in the Bassigny countryside .
history
Until 1789 the municipality was part of the Bailliage de Chaumont within the royal province of Champagne . The incorporated place Beaucharmoy was part of the Bailliage de la Marche in the Barrois mouvant region . The mechanization of agriculture led to heavy emigration in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Le Châtelet-sur-Meuse belonged to the Bourbonne district from 1793 to 1801. In addition to the canton of Pernot from 1793 to 1801 and to the canton of Bourbonne-les-Bains since 1801 . The place changed name several times. It was called Pouilly from 1793 to 1925 , Pouilly-sur-Meuse from 1925 to 1936, Pouilly-en-Bassigny from 1936 to 1973 and its current name since the merger with Beaucharmoy (1968: 41 inhabitants) in 1973.
