history

Church building

A chapel already stood on the site of today's church. It was built in 1717. However, the church was already too small at the beginning of the 19th century, so that the decision was made to build a church.

Today's church was built in 1830 according to plans by the Horster master builder Matthias Klein and signed on November 16, 1830. The bell tower was added to the nave in 1833 and the sacristy followed in 1845 . Thus a three-aisled hall church with a retracted bell tower and a rectangular closed choir in the architectural style of classicism was created. The barrel vault , which was given a wooden coffered ceiling in 1926, is characteristic of the interior . The Rath-Anhovener church was finally consecrated on May 10, 1852.

parish

Rath-Anhoven was a branch of the parish of St. Vinzentius Beeck until around 1800 , which is why there was only one chapel in Rath-Anhoven. After more than 30 years of negotiations, Rath-Anhoven was raised to an independent parish after 1800 . A parish church was therefore required, which was then built from 1830.

Since January 1, 2013, Rath-Anhoven is no longer an independent parish. The parish was merged with some other former parishes to form the parish of St. Martin Wegberg. Since then, St. Rochus has been a branch church of this new large parish.

Furnishing

In the interior there is a neo-baroque high altar, presumably from the 1920s, as well as a relief-like way of the cross made of wood and some wooden figures of saints. The windows above the entrances were created by Anton Wendling in 1949. The remaining stained glass windows are works by an unknown artist from around 1900. The organ from the Bonn company Johannes Klais Orgelbau , Opus 1159, is also worth mentioning. It has 18 registers distributed over two manuals and a pedal and dates from 1957.

Bells

In the tower of St. Rochus there is a bell from the interwar period , which is relatively rare.
