St. Ursus (Klosterbeuren)
The Catholic parish church of St. Ursus is located in Klosterbeuren , a district of Babenhausen in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The church is a listed building.
history
The Church of St. Ursus was originally a monastery church dedicated to the Franciscan Sisters and St. Francis. The monastery was founded in 1273. The oldest structural components of the church are the steeple and the core of the choir . Both probably date from the second quarter of the 15th century. At that time there was a single-nave polygonal closed church at this point. A Holy Blood relic was acquired in 1671. The monastery held local rule and lower jurisdiction as early as 1499. At the beginning of the 18th century, the choir and the nave were redesigned . The latter was widened and rebuilt with the southern side . Ulrich Fendt rebuilt the church in 1740/1741. During this renovation, the choir was raised, the ceiling in the nave was renewed and the winter choir was expanded. In 1803 the monastery was secularized and two years later, in 1805, the monastery church was rededicated as a parish church. Most of the monastery buildings were demolished in 1828. Only a small part of the former west wing is in the house north of the church. In the upper floor there are stucco work from the 17th century. Franz Xaver Deutschebaur shortened the nuns' gallery on the west side of the church in 1869.
Building description
The church building looks very nested due to the annexes from the 18th century on the south side. The Gothic gable roof tower is on the south side . The church tower enclosed by the annexes penetrates the transept-like aisle. The sacristy is also on the south side, right next to the church tower . The choir is divided on the outside by slim arched arches. The nave is provided with a flat ceiling. The original width of the nave, which was widened in the 18th century, is still indicated by the protruding tower wall on the southeast corner. The former crypt of the Franciscan Sisters is located under the south aisle . The aisle is connected to the main nave by three arcades. The winter choir is on the upper floor of the aisle. The choir is closed on three sides and slightly drawn in. A neo-Romanesque oratorio from 1869 is located on the south side of the choir.
Furnishing
Altars
The high altar was created in 1769 by Johann Bergmüller the Younger. The carved Pietà on the tabernacle dates from the middle of the 15th century. The panel paintings on the back of the tabernacle were created around 1600. On the panel paintings are probably St. Elisabeth on the left and St. Conrad of Marburg on the right. The painting with the Glory of St. Ursus was made by Konrad Huber in 1803 . The figures to the right and left of the main altar represent St. Elizabeth and St. Clare. In the extract there is a Heart of Jesus from the end of the 18th century.
Both side altars date from the middle of the 18th century. Both paintings on the side altars were created by Frang Georg Hermann in 1740. The left side altar shows St. Michael as this Lucifer falls. On the side there are figures of St. Florian and St. Sebastian . In the extract there is a representation of St. Franz Borgia, above is a figure of St. Joseph. St. Anthony of Padua can be seen in the altarpiece on the right side altar. This is flanked by the figures of St. Barbara and St. Catherine. The excerpt above shows Ignatius von Loyola . Above this there is a figure of John of Nepomuk .
Aisle
The altar in the aisle dates from the third quarter of the 18th century. The holy blood relic is kept in the tabernacle of the side aisle. On the tabernacle door there is a painted monstrance, above it a small wooden crucifix from the 15th century. The relics of St. Constantia in embroidered regalia are in a shrine of the convex altar structure. To the right and left of it there are figures of St. Francis and St. Elisabeth. The altarpiece depicting the Holy Family from 1805 was made by Konrad Huber .
pulpit
The pulpit , decorated with lavish Rocailles decor, dates from the middle of the 18th century.
characters
The figures of the apostles date from 1740. The crucifix of the crucifixion group under the gallery is from 1700. The figures of Mary and John date from the late 17th century. The thief's crosses are from the second half of the 17th century.
Winter choir
The winter choir is located above the western part of the aisle. This rectangular room, richly designed in 1741, consists of three axes. The mirror ceiling in the winter choir is located above a pilaster structure. In the winter choir, with its rounded corners, there is rococo stucco. The frescoes are by Franz Georg Hermann and show the Assumption of the Virgin and, in the spandrels, Saint Anthony of Padua, Benedict, Dominic and Francis. The altarpiece of the winter choir, also created by Franz Georg Hermann , shows the Immaculate , as well as St. Joseph in the extract. Arched doors are on the side of the altar. There are small silver reliefs with representations of St. Peter of Alcantara and John of Nepomuk above the doors framed by pilasters . The oil paintings are probably also by Franz Georg Hermann . These show the sacrifice of Abraham, St. Francis, as well as Christ with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well.
Further equipment
The choir stalls were made in the cartilage style around 1620/1630. Both the seating on the west wall and the seating on the gallery date from the second quarter of the 18th century. A wooden plaque in the church bears the names of the deceased nuns from the years 1414 to 1835.
