Parish church of St. Veit in Ursensollen

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Vitus in the Upper Palatinate community of Ursensollen in the Amberg-Sulzbach district of Bavaria is the main church of the Catholic parish of St. Vitus in Ursensollen and belongs to the diocese of Eichstätt .

history

In 1323, a Catholic church St. Vitus was mentioned for the first time in Ursensollen. At that time it belonged to the Pfaffenhofen parish near Kastl . With the religious mandate of June 22, 1542, Ottheinrich introduced the Reformation in his duchy Palatinate-Neuburg , to which the church in Ursensollen was also subjected. It is still used as a simultaneous church today. In 1712 the old church was torn down and rebuilt by 1715.

In 1856 a Catholic branch was established in Ursensollen and in 1922 Ursensollen became an independent parish.

In 2009, a highly poisonous gas used to control pests in the church caused the death of one man and serious injuries to ten others. The gas had penetrated from the village church into the row of houses next door and caused this accident.

Interior of the Church of St. Veit in Ursensollen

Interior

The builder of the high altar from 1712 was Georg Wolfgang Donhauser from Lauterhofen . The high altar that he created and the side altars are outstanding examples of acanthus altars . The altarpiece of the main altar depicts Saint Vitus . On the left altar there is a painted wooden figure from around 1740 depicting Mary with the baby Jesus . On the west wall there are three gravestones, one refers to Georg Sigmund von Haller von Hallerstein auf Prackenstein, Buckenhof, Kalchreuth and Ursensollen, carer for Maria Wettingen († June 6, 1719), then to Barbara Maria von Hautzenberg , née. Walser from Syrnburg († May 29, 1758, 56 years old) and on Joseph Ignaz von Thünefeld (* 1735, † 1737).

Epitaph of the court lord Johann von Erkenbrechtshausen

The most important grave monument in the church is the almost one meter high brass epitaph of Johann von Erkenbrechtshausen. It consists of two parts, one in Renaissance style framed shrine and is located underneath wide text cartridge . Johann von Erkenbrechtshausen wears a plate armor and humbly kneels before the crucified. The helmet stands in front of him on the ground with the visor open. To the left is his coat of arms; the divided shield shows a striding lion with a raised tail and two bars below. In the gem , a lion is depicted frontally between two wings; the helmet cover is designed in the form of acanthus tendrils. In the background you can see a park-like landscape with groups of trees and a walled city, which represents the heavenly Jerusalem . A castle located on a mountain also has a theological statement, it stands for the belief in God, who is a safe refuge (a castle) in the hour of death. The epitaph comes from the Renaissance, but the font is reminiscent of Gothic . The text cartouche, which has scrollwork on the sides , under the aedicule shows the following inscription in Gothic letters: Anno Domini 1578 the 28th Noüem: Verschid der Edel und Ehrnuest Johann the Elter von Erckenprechtshaussen, his age 73 years. Be merciful and merciful to God, and grant a joyous resurrection. Amen. Date of death and age were only added later, an indication that the epitaph was made during the lifetime of the court march lord. The cast brass comes from Nuremberg provenance; who created it is not known, but in terms of style it is associated with the Eichstatt Renaissance artist Loy Hering .

organ

The organ case also has acanthus carvings and shows the Thünefeld - Hautzenberg marriage coat of arms from around 1730.

Bells

The first bell with a diameter of 0.65 m has the following inscription: zv Gottes Praise Ehr vnd Dienst I / avs dem Guss flos I Thoma paver zv Amberg / gohs mich A 1611 , the second shows the inscription Silvius Kleeblatt in Amberg , 1734 .

Construction

The church is a plastered solid structure with a gable roof , the three-bay nave is ascribed to the early 18th century. It has a drawn-in choir with a yoke and a three-sided end. The nave is equipped with barrel vaults and pointed caps as well as wall pilasters ; the sacristy is north of the choir.

In 1955 the church was extended by a transept and a choir tower with a tent roof , before it only had a turret with a pointed helmet . In 1990 the church was renovated and the church tower was raised by five meters.
