Metrotram Volgograd
The Metrotram Wolgograd ( Russian Волгоградский метротрам / Wolgogradski metrotram ) is an underground tram in the Russian city of Volgograd . It is similar to a light rail and complements the conventional tram .
description
The 17.3-kilometer-long Volgograd Metrotram was put into operation on November 5, 1984 between Traktorny zavod (WGTS) ( Тракторный завод (ВГТЗ) ) and Ploshchad Chekistov ( Площадь Чекистов ) with 13.5 kilometers to the northern outskirts of the Volgograd region the city center. On December 1, 2011, the Metrotram was extended for the first time from Pionerskaya ( Пионерская ) by three more underground stations to Jelschanka ( Ельшанка ). Of the total of 22 stops , five are underground. The length of the underground section of the line, opened in 1984, is 3.3 kilometers, that of the extension opened in 2011 is 3.5 kilometers.
The extension to Yelshanka ( Ельшанка ) the previous southern terminus was Ploschtschad Tschekistow ( Площадь Чекистов ) to a two guest; therefore the following line numbers were introduced at the same time:
line | route | opening | Stations |
---|---|---|---|
ST1 | Traktorny zavod (WGTS) (Тракторный завод (ВГТЗ)) ↔ Ploshchad Chekistov (Площадь Чекистов) | 1984 | 19th |
ST2 | Stadium Monolit (Стадион Монолит) ↔ Jelschanka (Ельшанка) | 2011 | 15th |
The travel time on the entire ST1 line is 32 minutes on average. The ST2 line complements the ST2 line in the north to the Stadion Monolit ( Стадион Монолит ) station, where you can change to the 13 tram . Even before the first extension, the Volgograd Metrotram carried around 50 million passengers a year, thereby relieving the inner-city network of the Elektritschkas .
On its above-ground part, the Metrotram partly uses the tracks of the ordinary tram. As a special feature, the Metrotram partly operates on the left-hand side of its underground section . The reason for this is the use of central platforms in combination with means vehicles that have only on the right side of the vehicle entrances. This is the case in the Lenin Square and Komsomolskaya stations. The page change takes place without crossing. The new vehicles are bidirectional with passenger doors on both sides, so the platform side is irrelevant for these trams.
Expansion plans
Current plans include a further 3.5 kilometers south extension by three stations to the university; its opening could take place in 2015 at the earliest. In the even longer term, the option of converting the line into a fully-fledged subway with elevated platforms and a more efficient vehicle fleet is kept open . This can be seen, for example, from the fact that in the underground stations at the lower end of the escalators a few steps lead down to the platform. The tunnel portals on the opposite end wall also give the impression that the platform goes further behind.
Further extensions of the existing crossing-free route, especially to the north, as well as the construction of a new line are conceivable.
vehicles
The vehicle park of the Volgograd Metrotram consists of Tatra T3 tram cars that were produced and delivered between 1980 and 1987. They usually run in double traction . New acquisitions are planned in the course of the anticipated expansion of the light rail system, but it has not yet been determined which vehicle type should be acquired.
As part of the regional train concept, the contract for the purchase of the first 10 new low-floor LVS was signed in 2009. Vehicles 5838 to 5847 will be adapted for operation on the Metrotram.
