List of savings banks in Germany

The Stadtsparkasse Schmallenberg was a public savings bank based in Schmallenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia . The business area of the Stadtsparkasse was the urban area of Schmallenberg. Stadtsparkasse Schmallenberg was founded in 1855. Stadtsparkasse merged with Sparkasse Meschede and Sparkasse Finnentrop on August 1, 2019 to form Sparkasse Mitten im Sauerland .

History of the Sparkasse

Beginnings

The mayor and bailiff Röper received the following order from the local council in 1854. The following resolution was recorded in the protocol book No. 871 of the town council of Schmallenberg from October 25, 1854: “ On the communicated district councilor's order of September 29 , 1854. cN 2736 was the establishment of a savings bank with guarantee from the local authority. City decided, and the mayor commissioned Röper to initiate the further necessary ”.

Röper then drafted a statute for the savings bank, which he submitted to the municipal council for resolution on January 24, 1855. The amendments proposed by the Upper President in Arnsberg to the statutes were discussed on April 2, 1855 and decided on the same day (record book no. 912). The council decision documents the birth of the Stadtsparkasse. Current operations began on June 1, 1855 in two rooms at Oststrasse 41.

The Sparkasse Fredeburg was established in 1859 and the Sparkasse Bödefeld in 1861 in what is now the city. In 1864 there were a total of 53 savings banks in the administrative district. In the same year, the Stadtsparkasse Schmallenberg had a deposit portfolio of 79,016 thaler, the Sparkasse Fredeburg of 29,227 thaler and the Sparkasse in Bödefeld of 16,466 thaler.

Stadtsparkasse and / or Amtssparkasse

On May 18, 1897, the city council elected the bailiff Wilhelm Röper II, son of the late Wilhelm Röper, as chairman of the savings bank administration. Subsequently, the Mescheder district council considered establishing a district savings bank. The official representative Schmallenberg calls at the same time the creation of a Office Savings Bank. With the foundation, the already existing Stadtsparkasse should merge with the Amtssparkasse. This led to disputes with the city council, who had no concerns about the establishment of an official savings bank, but wanted to keep their city savings bank. On July 8, 1898, the official assembly passed the resolution that a savings bank should be set up for the association of the district. On November 5, 1898, the Schmallenberg city council rejected the abolition of the city savings bank without giving any reason.

The approval of the statutes for the Amtssparkasse lasted until 1901. The municipal and city councils could not come to an agreement in the meantime. With a decree dated March 30, 1901, the Oberpräsident von Westfalen announced the approval of the new Amtssparkasse and advocated a possible merger of the two savings banks. At its meeting on June 7, 1901, the city council again rejected the desired merger. In an order on October 22, 1901, the chief president informed the district administrator that he had approved the establishment of a new savings bank in the Schmallenberg office for the communities of Grafschaft , Oberkirchen and Wormbach . The Schmallenberg Office thus received a second savings bank.

There were renewed unification negotiations as early as 1908. The merger resolution of the city council passed on April 8, 1908, however, failed due to the lack of logging and the later refusal of signing by the city representatives. The unification negotiations in 1910 and 1912 also failed. In 1924, the upper president took part in the unification discussion. The two savings banks merged three years later. On January 16, 1927, the chief president approved the statutes and the unification contract for an official savings bank called “Stadt- und Landgemeindesparkasse Schmallenberg”.

The office of the Stadt- und Landgemeindesparkasse was located on March 1, 1927 in the rented premises at Kampstrasse 3. In 1951, the Sparkasse acquired the property at Weststrasse 30. On October 21, 1952, the district president approved the construction of the new Sparkasse building. The building in Weststrasse was inaugurated on August 28, 1953 according to the plans of the Dortmund architects Adolf Ott. Until the reorganization, branches in the places Gleidorf (1958), Fleckenberg (1959), Wormbach (1965), Bracht and Westfeld (1966), Grafschaft and Nordenau (1967), Lenne (1969), Holthausen (1972, from the Stadtsparkasse Fredeburg) ) and Obersorpe (1973).

Stadtsparkasse Schmallenberg

After the municipal reorganization in 1975, the Stadtsparkasse Schmallenberg was created from the Stadt- und Landgemeindesparkasse Schmallenberg of the Schmallenberg office, the Sparkasse of the city of Fredeburg and the Sparkasse of the municipality of Bödefeld . In 1982 and 1983 the main office was rebuilt and extended according to the plans of the architects Richter and Sander. On December 9, 1983, the expanded headquarters building on Weststrasse was inaugurated.
