The city works on the lake GmbH & Co. KG (SWSee) was October 1, 2012 by the Stadtwerke Lingen (Swü) and the Technische Werke Friedrichshafen founded (TWF). With around 90,000 customers, the company is the largest energy supplier in the Lake Constance area .

history

On October 1, 2012, Stadtwerke Überlingen (Swü) and Technischen Werke Friedrichshafen (TWF) founded Stadtwerk am See GmbH & Co.KG with the aim of achieving synergies through the cooperation between the two companies, improving customer service and improving the competitive and to better meet the legal requirements of the energy market.

The two mayors Sabine Becker (Überlingen) and Andreas Brand (Friedrichshafen) initiated the establishment of the company in spring 2011. After examining different types of cooperation, the two municipal councils decided in December 2011 to work out the most extensive cooperation model. In May 2012, the municipal councils in Friedrichshafen and Überlingen decided to found the new municipal utility. On July 9, 2012, Stadtwerk am See GmbH & Co. KG was formed with retroactive effect from January 1, 2012. The company started operations on October 1, 2012.

The company is based in Überlingen, with the administrative headquarters in Friedrichshafen. Managing director is Alexander-Florian Bürkle. The chairman of the supervisory board is Jan Zeitler, Lord Mayor of the City of Überlingen, and his deputy is Andreas Brand, Lord Mayor of the City of Friedrichshafen.

The shareholders of Stadtwerk am See GmbH & Co. KG are TWF, Swü and SWSee Beteiligungsgesellschaft. The cities of Friedrichshafen, Überlingen and the communities of Frickingen and Hagnau have a stake in the municipal utility through these companies . The SWSee Beteiligungsgesellschaft presents itself as an innovative model. This holding company gives municipalities the opportunity to participate in an existing municipal utility. The municipality of Frickingen has been the first shareholder since January 1, 2013.

electricity

Stadtwerk am See offers various green electricity tariffs. The company's stated goal is to promote the energy transition in the Lake Constance region through a targeted offer of ecological energy and the promotion of ecological and energy-efficient energy generation . The predecessor company TWF voluntarily supplied all private customers with electricity from hydropower as early as 2000 . The proportion of hydropower customers at SWSee is therefore significantly higher than that of other municipal utilities.

Gas and heat

Stadtwerk am See offers several biogas tariffs. The company also supports the ecological orientation of the Lake Constance region by expanding energy-efficient local heating . In addition, the company is expanding the heat supply by building local heating networks, e.g. B. with the woodchip systems in the Überlingen-Schättlisberg area and Friedrichshafen vocational school center, or with energy-efficient combined heat and power plants in the Friedrichshafen-Löwental area and for the industrial companies MTU Friedrichshafen and ZF Friedrichshafen AG .

Ecology and renewable energy

Stadtwerk am See supplies over 80,000 households in the Lake Constance district and beyond with electricity, natural gas, heat and drinking water. The focus is on renewable energies and energy efficiency . Since 2000 (predecessor company TWF) there has been electricity from hydropower for all households, biogas, ecological local heating projects and citizen solar roofs . Stadtwerk also acts as a service provider for companies and municipalities in the energy and water sector.

Regionality

Stadtwerk am See sees itself as a regional provider. Products and services are primarily offered in the Lake Constance district, the network areas are exclusively in the Lake Constance district. The Stadtwerk has a total of three customer centers in Friedrichshafen and Überlingen. If possible, regional companies are preferred when awarding contracts.

E-mobility

E-mobility has been one of the company's core competencies since 2010. Since then, the Stadtwerk has financially supported almost 700 e-bikes and built various charging stations for e-bikes and e-cars in Friedrichshafen, Überlingen and Markdorf. The municipal utility's own pedelecs and e-cars are also in use.

Stadtwerk am See has published its annual report exclusively online since 2013. The website www.swseebericht.de shows animations about the municipal utility and its holdings.
