Stanisław "Rewera" Potocki

Stanisław "Rewera" Potocki (* 1579 in Pidhajzi ; † February 27, 1667 ibid) was a member of the Potocki magnate family , a Polish statesman and military leader during the " Flood ".

Stanisław Potocki was nicknamed "Rewera" because he often used the Latin word revera ("in fact").

Life

Potocki was Starost von Halytsch in 1627 , Bar in 1651 and Dolyna in 1659 . As a voivode Potocki was from 1631 to 1636 the Bracław Voivodeship , from 1636 to 1653 Podolia Voivodeship , between 1655 and 1658 the Kiev Voivodeship and from 1658 the Krakow Voivodeship . In 1652 Potocki became field hetman of the Polish crown and from 1654 to 1667 he was grand hetman of the Polish crown .

"Rewera" already fought in the Ottoman-Polish War of 1620/21. In the Polish-Swedish War in 1629, Rewera led the Polish troops against the Swedes under Hermann von Wrangel in the lost battle of Górzno . He commanded Polish troops in the Cossack uprising of March 1630 under Taras Fedorowytsch (called "Taras Trjasylo"), in 1633 in the fight against the Crimean Tatars at Kamjanez-Podilskyj , during the uprising in Ukraine of 1637/38 under Pavlo Pavljuk and during the Khmelnyzkyi uprising in the Battle of Sboriw in 1649, the Battle of Berestetschko in 1651 and the Battle of Bila Tserkva of 1651. Furthermore, Potocki was commander in chief of the troops during the Russo-Polish War against the Muscovites under the leadership of Vasily Sheremjetev in the Battle of Ochmatiw in 1655 and in the battle of Tschudniw in 1660.

In 1655 he founded the Confederation of Tyszowce , an alliance of Polish-Lithuanian nobles in Tyszowce , which marked a turning point in the second Polish-Swedish war .
