The Stapenberg is 443.4  m above sea level. NHN high mountain spur in the Harz near Benzingerode in the Harz district , Saxony-Anhalt ( Germany ).

location

The Stapenberg is located on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . It rises southwest of the Wernigerode district of Benzingerode. To the north its landscape drops into the northern Harz foreland. The small Limbach rises east-southeast of the spur as a tributary of the Hellbach flowing through Benzingerode .

Natural allocation

The Stapenberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group Harz (No. 38), in the main unit Lower Harz (382) and in the subunit Lower Harz-Nordrand (382.6) to the natural area Benzinger or Harzrand (382.60). To the south, the landscape turns into the subunit Hasselfelder plateau (382.2). To the north it falls into the natural area Blankenburger Vorberge (510 2 .50), which in the main unit group Northern Harz foreland (No. 51) and in the main unit Blankenburger Harz foreland (510 2 ) to the sub-unit Ballenstedter and Blankenburger Vorberge (510 2 .5) counts.

history

The Stapenberg was owned by the knight Hans Knauth until 1470 .

Protected areas

On the Stapenberg are parts of the protected landscape resin and Vorländer ( CDDA -No 20784;. 1968 reported; 1587.7836  square kilometers large), the fauna Habitats -region deciduous forest area between Wernigerode and Blankenburg (FFH No. 4231-301;. 36 , 15 km²) and the bird sanctuary between Wernigerode and Blankenburg (VSG no. 4231-401; 36.13 km²).

Opportunities for viewing and hiking

The Stapenberg is known for its view of the Brocken and the northern Harz foreland between Wernigerode and Heimburg , which is currently offered by logging in the summit region. Coming from Benzingerode, a steep hiking trail runs over the mountain spur to the Hermannsweg and on to Wernigerode Castle or Elbingerode . The stamp point 33 of the Harz hiking pin is located on the spur summit .
