Star crush

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under Star enthusiasm ( Engl. Celebrity Crush ) refers colloquially the infatuation of a man in a prominent personality with strong media presence ( " Star "). The phenomenon is commonly associated with puberty and adolescence . With the Internet, however, web forums have emerged on which adults who are in love with stars are increasingly seeking to network and exchange ideas. Girls and women are far more likely to admit star crush than boys and men.

Although star infatuation is widespread in the Western world and beyond, little research has been done on this phenomenon to this day.

Definition of terms

Enthusiasm for stars often coincides with Fantum , but differs from Fantum insofar as admiration and admiration are in the foreground in Fantum, while in the case of star enthusiasm, romantic and sexual longing for union with the star in a love relationship are in the foreground. While groupies aggressively seek sex with stars, star infatuation is primarily about daydreaming or an activity of the imagination that helps individuals explore their own sexuality.

Star infatuation among children and young people

Falling in love with a star is an everyday phenomenon, especially among children and adolescents, and a typical concern that this age group experiences in e-mail advice centers such as B. www.nummergegenkummer.de is presented.

In most cases, of course, star infatuation doesn't cause any problems at all. As a 2005 study of 142 young American women showed, girls who are deeply in love with male celebrities actually show increased social activity; their relationships with boys of their own age are better than those of girls who are not interested in stars.

history

Star infatuations are not a phenomenon of modern times. Even the castrati of the baroque opera (17th / 18th century) had numerous female admirers who wrote them love letters.

From Goethe's correspondence with a child (1835) it is known that Johann Wolfgang von Goethe had admirers whose admiration could not be distinguished from being in love: here the young Bettina Brentano . Composers and musicians such as Ludwig van Beethoven , Johann Strauss and Franz Liszt ("Lisztomania") were repeatedly asked by their admirers to curl their hair.

In 1926, the surprising death of the American silent film star and lover actor Rudolph Valentino sparked mass hysteria among his numerous female fans.

Adolf Hitler received around 8,000 love letters from admirers in the course of his chancellorship.

In 1964 a collection of love letters to the Beatles was published in London . (See also: " Beatlemania ")

In 1981, John Hinckley's attempt to attract the attention of Jodie Foster through an assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan showed that men - in some cases even obsessive - develop star crushes. In 1989 the actress Rebecca Schaeffer was murdered by an obsessive stalker . In 1993 the Icelandic singer Björk escaped the assassination attempt by a stalker who hoped to be reunited with his victim in the afterlife. However, such acts are by no means carried out exclusively by men; as early as 1949, a stalker shot at baseball player Eddie Waitkus ( Philadelphia Phillies ) and almost killed him in the process.

In the early 2010s, a great many female American teenagers were in love with the young pop singer Justin Bieber . The "Bieber Fever" was even noticed by scientists during this time. Today, the Internet encourages star crush in two ways. Firstly, it allows fans in love to access intimate detailed information about their stars at any time. Second, it allows them to exchange ideas with each other and to network with people who support them.
