Star Fox Zero is a video game from the Shoot-'em-up - genre and part of the Star Fox series . It was developed and published for the Wii U by the Japanese video game developer Nintendo .
Star Fox Zero was available both individually and as a bundle with Star Fox Guard . It supports Nintendo's amiibo figures.
Gameplay
The gameplay is similar to that of the other Star Fox games.
In Star Fox Zero you control a vehicle through three-dimensional levels and have to complete various missions. Different vehicles are available:
- Arwing : The Arwing is the standard spaceship used by the Star Fox team.
- Walker : You can use the Walker to move about on the ground. The Arwing can transform into a walker by using its wings as legs.
- Landmaster : A tank-like means of transport that can fly for a short time.
- Gyrowing : A slowly moving agile spaceship.
development
The development of Star Fox Zero began after trying to display a Wii test version on two screens. The spaceship should be controlled on the television screen and the cockpit view should be visible on the Wii U GamePad .
During the digital event at E3 2014, Nintendo Star introduced Fox Zero and showed the first game scenes. The game should be released in 2015.
During E3 2015, Nintendo announced that the game was co-developed by Platinum Games . The year of publication was also given as 2015. On October 2, 2015, Platinum Games Co-Director Yusuke Hashimoto announced that the game had been postponed to 2016. He also announced that it should run at a frame rate of 60 FPS on TV and gamepad.
During a Nintendo Direct on November 12, 2015, Nintendo announced April 22, 2016 as the final release date. The previously due polygon -Armut strongly criticized graphic was up to the Direct greatly improved.

Reviews
Star Fox Zero received mostly average ratings.
It achieved 69 out of 100 possible points on Metacritic . On Gamerankings.com , the Standard Edition received 68.78% and the Double Pack, which also contains Star Fox Guard , 82%.
The main criticism of Star Fox Zero was the controls, such as the division into the cockpit view of the GamePad and the view of the television, which requires constant looking back and forth. In addition, the combination of controlling the means of locomotion using sticks and controlling the crosshairs using motion control is criticized.
“Because as unusual as the control concept, which is distributed over two screens, is just as unintuitive. Despite a tutorial, it takes a long time to get used to the basics and to be able to change the focus properly to the best screen in each case. Not to mention the finesse that it sometimes takes to find the sometimes well-hidden junctions and secrets in the missions. But when you have come to terms with the impassability, the fun begins and only comes to a standstill because of the sometimes unnecessarily old-fashioned textures or the mostly poor presentation. "
“On the one hand, Nintendo manages to transport the great arcade feel of the predecessor perfectly to the Wii U, despite the controls and the two perspectives that take getting used to, and to enrich it with some nice elements such as the walker or gyrowing. It feels like it used to, it's still fun, it works. On the other hand, I am also shocked by how much the developers rest on the old concept and hardly try out new ideas. Same story, same process, dear, even the credits are the same! "
Sales figures
In the first week, the Standard Edition sold around 8,000 times and the "double pack", which contains Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard , around 17,000 times.
