Stefan Baron

Stefan Baron (born February 6, 1948 in Dahn ) is a German journalist, author and communications consultant. He was Head of Communications at Deutsche Bank until May 2012 . Before that he was editor-in-chief of WirtschaftsWoche . Today Baron works as a freelance author and communications consultant.

Life

Education

Baron attended the humanistic Otfried-von-Weißenburg-Gymnasium in Dahn . After graduating from high school, he completed basic military service in the press staff of the commanding general at III. Corps in Koblenz. He then studied economics , political science and social psychology in Cologne from 1969 to 1975 and at the Institut d'études politiques in Paris and graduated with a diploma in Cologne.

Then Baron went for an internship of empirical social research on Rehabilitation Program Services , Seal Beach ( California ). From 1976 to 1978 he was a research assistant in the developing countries department at the Institute for World Economy in Kiel .

He then began his journalistic career as an editor in the politics department of WirtschaftsWoche . From 1982 to 1989 he worked for Der Spiegel, first as a corporate editor at the head office in Hamburg , then as an international financial correspondent based in Frankfurt am Main .

In 1990 Baron returned to WirtschaftsWoche as deputy editor-in-chief. A year later he became co-editor-in-chief, and from 1995 he was sole editor-in-chief of the magazine. Baron also acted as editor of the lifestyle magazine fivetonine , which he launched in 2004 as the founding editor.

On June 1, 2007, Baron moved to Deutsche Bank as Head of Communications . In the position of Managing Director and as a close employee of the bank boss Josef Ackermann , he was responsible for the global communication and brand management of the financial institution as well as its activities in the area of ​​corporate social responsibility. Awards

Stefan Baron has been awarded the Scheffel Prize , the Friedrich List Medal and the Ludwig Erhard Prize for business journalism . In 2009, after the outbreak of the financial crisis, he was elected PR Manager of the Year as the first head of communications in the financial sector . In 2017 he was named Journalist of the Year 2016 by the industry media business journalist and medium magazine for his life's work .

Baron is the author or editor of numerous books. Baron was on the Board of Trustees of the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies in Washington DC for a decade until 2012 and was a member of the first Sino-German Dialogue Forum and, during his time as a journalist, the World Media Leaders at the World Economic Forum (WEF).
