Stefan Wojtkowiak (born August 9, 1923 in Zalesie; † March 12, 2012 in Łódź ) - was a Polish historian , political scientist , professor and university lecturer , and a colonel in the Polish People's Army .

His grandfather, Jan Wojtkowiak, took part in the January uprising ; his father, Marcin, participated in the Poznan Uprising and the Polish-Soviet War .

Wartime

Volunteer in the Battle of the Bzura , participant in the conspiracy (deliverer of the Bulletin Dla ciebie Polsko 1940–41); left activist since 1942 (numerous acts of sabotage during forced labor ); Participant in the fighting against the UPA in 1946.

Scientific activity

Research Associate: first in the Military Medicine Academy, since 1974 at the University of Łódź . Graduated in history from the UŁ in 1957, doctor of humanities 1962, habilitated doctor in 1969, associate professor 1990; Reviewer of ten doctoral theses and one habilitation. His academic output includes over 170 publications in the fields of history , historical geography and religious studies . Co-founder of the Museum of Medical University in Łódź (formerly the Museum of Military Health).

Activity in academic societies

Member of the Polish History Society since the 1940s; 1959–1970 member of the Polish Society for the History of Medicine and Pharmacy; 1959–1974 member of the social sciences commission at the Ministry of National Defense . 1982–1986 chairman of the Łódź department of the Polish Political Science Society . The initiator, founder and first chairman of the Łódź branch of the Society for Secular Culture.

Awards

Awarded, among other things, the order of Polonia Restituta and numerous war awards .
