Stefano Russo (born August 26, 1961 in Ascoli Piceno , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman, general secretary of the Italian Bishops' Conference and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Fabriano-Matelica .

Life

Stefano Russo was ordained a priest for the diocese of Ascoli Piceno on April 20, 1991 .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Fabriano-Matelica on March 18, 2016 . The Archbishop of Ancona-Osimo , Edoardo Cardinal Menichelli , donated him episcopal consecration on May 28 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Ascoli Piceno, Giovanni D'Ercole FDP , and the former Bishop of Cassano all'Jonio , Nunzio Galantino . The inauguration in the diocese of Fabriano-Matelica took place on June 11, 2016.

On September 28, 2018, he was also appointed General Secretary of the Italian Bishops' Conference . Pope Francis accepted his resignation as Bishop of Fabriano-Matelica on April 27, 2019. He retains the office of general secretary of the Bishops' Conference. Until July 26, 2019 he administered the diocese Fabriano-Matelica as Apostolic Administrator .
