Giovanni D'Ercole FDP (born October 5, 1947 in Morino ) is Bishop of Ascoli Piceno .

Life

Giovanni D'Ercole joined the Order of the Sons of Divine Providence and was ordained a priest on October 5, 1974 . He studied philosophy and theology at the seminary of Naples. At the Pontifical Alfonsian Academy in Rome, he completed a doctorate in moral theology . He graduated from La Sapienza University in Rome with a degree in social communication.

From 1974 to 1976 he was chaplain of the Carcere Minorile di Casal del Marmo prison in Rome, then teacher of religion and political education and pastor of "Our Lady of Fatima" in Borgata Massimilla, Rome. From 1976 to 1984 he was a missionary in the Ivory Coast , where he was pastor and vicar general in the diocese of Grand-Bassam . He was professor of moral theology at the major seminary in Anyama .

From 1984 to 1985 he was pastor in Ognissanti near Florence and from 1986 to 1987 provincial of his order. In 1987 he became deputy director of the Holy See Press Office . From 1990 to 2009 he was in the State Secretariat and in 1998 took over the management of the office in the General Affairs Section.

Auxiliary Bishop in L'Aquila

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on November 14, 2009 titular bishop of Dusa and auxiliary bishop in L'Aquila . The Cardinal Secretary of State and Cardinal Chamberlain , Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone SDB , donated him episcopal ordination on December 12 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Renato Raffaele Cardinal Martino , President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace , and Giuseppe Molinari , Archbishop of L'Aquila. Within the Italian Bishops' Conference, he is secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Cultural and Social Communication.

He is the author of numerous articles in religious and social journals. He is the director of the religious magazine Don Orione Oggi and the magazine Crescere of the spiritual movement Movimento Oasi , founded by Virginio Rotondi . He is the spiritual assistant of the Tra Noi movement and pastor of the Nuovi Orizzonti movement . Since 2002 he has been the author and director of the television program Sulla via di Damasco (On the way to Damascus), which is broadcast every Saturday on Rai 2 . He publishes a monthly column for Radio Maria . He is a member of the Ordine dei giornalisti del Lazio e del Molise .

Bishop of Ascoli Piceno

On April 12, 2014, he was appointed Bishop of Ascoli Piceno by Pope Francis . The inauguration took place on May 10 of the same year.
