It stretches for about 2.8 km in the triangle of the localities Alfeld , Freden and Delligsen . It lies between Gerzen in the north, Föhrste and Wispenstein in the east, Imsen in the southeast, Delligsen in the south and the somewhat distant green plan in the northwest.

To the north-west of the Steinberg lies the Reuberg , on the other side of the Leine to the north the Seven Mountains and to the east the Sackwald , south-east the Selter and south-west and west of the Hils . The valley of the Wispe , a southwestern Leine tributary, leads over to the Selter.

The B 3 passes the Steinberg to the east and south- east.

Geology and landscape

The Steinberg is a limestone fold . On its ridge and its partly steeply sloping flanks are limestone cliffs, mostly hidden in the forest, like the "Kippnäse" in the southeast. Somewhat southeast of the main summit of the ridge ( 300.3  m above sea level ) there is an abandoned quarry , which is designated as a nature reserve " Delligser Steinbruch ".

The Steinberg is densely composed of deciduous forest, in the northeast of the Imsen forest and in the southwest of the Delligsen forest.

hike

A few forest paths and paths lead over the Steinberg, among other things you can walk on a hiking trail below the ridge in a north-west-south-east direction through the ridge. The European long-distance hiking trail E11 runs north-west in the transition area to the Reuberg between Grünenplan and Gerzen .
