The Steinberg (705 m above sea level ) is a densely wooded basalt cone north of Pechbrunn in the Upper Palatinate district of Tirschenreuth and the highest point in the Reich Forest in the Fichtel Mountains .
geography
Together with the basalt cones Wappenstein (672 m), Steinhügel (677 m) and a nameless height (670 m) only a few hundred meters away , the Steinberg is in the west and south of the A 93 motorway and the Weiden – Oberkotzau railway from Pechbrunn and Steinwald Cut.
geology
A large basalt eruption area lies between Marktredwitz , Mitterteich , Konnersreuth and Seußen . It is the westernmost branch of the North Bohemian basalt volcanism. In the Miocene , liquid basalt mass came up through the granite .
