The Wappenstein (672 m above sea level ) is a densely forested basalt cone north of Pechbrunn in the Upper Palatinate district of Tirschenreuth and belongs to the Reichsforst in the Fichtelgebirge .

geography

Together with the basalt cones Steinberg (705 m), Steinhügel (677 m) and an unnamed height (670 m), which are only a few hundred meters away , the Wappenstein is in the west and south of the A 93 motorway and the Weiden – Oberkotzau railway from Pechbrunn and Steinwald Cut.

geology

A large basalt eruption area lies between Marktredwitz , Mitterteich , Konnersreuth and Seußen . It is the westernmost branch of the North Bohemian basalt volcanism. In the Miocene , liquid basalt mass came up through the granite .

history

In addition to the Prussian stones , the coat of arms stone reminds of the former state border. The border ran over the heights of the Reichsforstes, the current administrative district border between Upper Palatinate and Upper Franconia runs north of the coat of arms, which is now in the Upper Palatinate area. This is also where the administrative districts of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge and Tirschenreuth meet.
