The Steinbergstein is a 2215  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Kitzbühel Alps .

location

The Steinbergstein rises between the valleys of the Windauer Ache and the Kelchsauer Ache . The source rich Kar between the northern edge of Steinberg stone, to which Ramkarkopf ( 2063  m ) and Steinberg ( 1886  m ) is the Steinberg trench which pours into the Windauer Ache. The Trattenbach , which feeds the Kurz Grundache , rises in the south of the Steinberg , a tributary of the Kelchsauer Ache.

Use of the mountain

Above the tree line , the open slopes are used as grazing grounds for sheep, goats, cows and horses. Sheep herds in particular can be found near the summit in summer. A material cable car leads from the Gamskogelhütte to the Lagfeldenalm. The hiking trails are all marked with tree and ground markings.

Mountain climbing

From Kelchsau it goes on the road over the snack station "Sonnblick" to the Demmelshütten. From here our way over the Lodronalmen by free pastureland leads up to Lodrongipfel ( 1925  m ). From here you can get to the summit of the Steinbergstein in about 1 ½ hours. A total of five hours is to be expected.

On the befahrberen forest in Windautal that extends to the foot of Kröndlhorns leads, you get to the Steinberg home and Gamskogelhütte . The shortest, but also the most difficult route leads steeply on the eastern flank from the Gamskogelhütte via the Ahornaualm up to the Lagfeldenalm. From here it goes through open terrain over a non-paved, but marked path up to the summit. An ascent from the Steinberghaus is also possible and leads through the Steinberggraben over the Neuhögenalmen and the Oberkaralm up to the Lodronjoch. From there you can get to the Steinbergstein via the Ramkarkopf.

All hiking trails, but especially those on the eastern flank, require good surefootedness . In winter the Steinbergstein is a popular and challenging destination for ski tours .

The summit cross of the Steinbergstein

summit

The Steinbergstein has a steel summit cross on which the stamp and summit book can be found. The summit cross - in its current form - was erected in the summer of 1978.

The summit allows an impressive view of the Brixental and the Kaiser Mountains in the north. The ridge line of the Kitzbühel Alps with the prominent peaks of the Kröndlhorn ( 2444  m ) and the Salzach vulture ( 2466  m ) extends to the south .
