Steinburg is a district of the municipality of Finneland in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The village of Steinburg lies between Weimar and Halle (Saale) at an altitude of 209 meters. It is also located on Kreisstraße 2256 on a former strategic wrench-like forest enclosure of the An der Finne hills to the north .

history

The first documentary mention took place on May 15, 1306. The town of Steinburg has its origins in a castle complex that existed between the 8th and 10th centuries. Remains of this wood-earth castle suggest a larger, two-part complex that was later built over by the castle, estate and village. The patronage of the church, Burkhardus , suggests a Franconian origin. The rule or the owners of Steinburg have changed very often over the centuries. The counts of Rabenswalde (around 1300), a Rabenswalder vassal Heinricus de stone Burgk (1306) and the Noble Lords of Querfurt (1383) are variously called before the family Koller 1439 as Lehnsnehmer of the Landgrave of Thuringia , and in 1501 as the owner of the office Eckartsberga in Albertine Thuringia are called. During this time (1486), among other things, Marienroda is listed under wüstenung ztu Mergerode as an accessory of the Steinburg lordship, which was probably a preliminary work of the manor .

Also Borgau / "Pergau" which documented in 1209 under the Pfortenbesitzungen as Burkauwe was mentioned was after the 1486 Lehnbrief part of the rule Steinburg, where it has remained. As part of the Eckartsberga office, Steinburg belonged to the Thuringian District of the Electorate (from 1806 Kingdom) of Saxony from 1547 to 1815 .

BW

After 1686 Steinburg Castle came to the von Münchhausen family , who owned it until it was expropriated as part of the land reform in 1945. From this family, Philipp Adolph von Münchhausen , Hanoverian Minister of State and Head of the German Chancellery in London, should be mentioned, as well as his grandson Philipp Adolph Friedrich von Münchhausen , who made sustained efforts to get rid of forced labor. Even today you can see historical tombstones of those from Münchhausen in the Steinburger Friedhof. The castle, built in the 15th century, with its park and pond, is known beyond the municipal boundaries. The three-winged building with baroque window axes and stair tower appears to have intact roofs, but is otherwise empty and awaiting renovation.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Borgau was incorporated.

On July 1, 2009 Steinburg was incorporated into the new municipality of Finneland . The last mayor was Johann Lins. In 2012 there were 101 people living in the district.
