Steinkirchen , Kamjena in Lower Sorbian , is a district of the city of Lübben (Spreewald) in the south of the Dahme-Spreewald district in Brandenburg .
location
Steinkirchen is located in Niederlausitz in the Spreewald biosphere reserve . Surrounding villages are the city of Lübben in the north, Ratsvorwerk in the east, the Lübbenau district of Ragow in the south, Neuendorf in the southwest and Treppendorf in the west.
Steinkirchen is located on the state road 49 to Lübbenau. The Berlin – Görlitz railway line runs south of the village, and the 87 federal road from Luckau to Beeskow runs north . Today Steinkirchen has grown together structurally with the city of Lübben.
history
Steinkirchen was first mentioned in 1396 as Steynkirche . On April 1, 1939 Steinkirchen was incorporated into the city of Lübben .
The St. Pankratius Church in Steinkirchen was built around 1240 and is therefore one of the oldest stone churches in Lower Lusatia. The place name is also derived from the construction of the church. The church has been named after the Roman martyr Pankratius since 1500 .
