Steinklamm is a village in the municipality of Rabenstein an der Pielach in Lower Austria .
The Steinklamm location used to consist of a few individual farmsteads, but the Pielach lowland, which is conveniently located for transport, was soon used industrially. From 1841 vinegar and brandy were produced and later Harlander Coats built a cotton mill and a twist factory . Between 1908 and 1914, produced here Steinklammer rubber plants , but the company ended due to their British ownership with the outbreak of World War I the operations. The place had been accessible to traffic since 1898 by a station of the Mariazellerbahn , a narrow-gauge railway.
The Steinklamm internment camp was also set up in 1914 , initially occupied mainly by refugees from Galicia , where Italians were later interned, and which was converted into an orphanage after the end of the war .
Today, large parts of the former camp are used again for agriculture, while a small housing estate has established itself on the edge.
