Steinsdorf is a district of the town of Leutenberg in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

geography

Steinsdorf is the northern neighboring village of Kleingeschwenda and is also located on a high plateau of the south- east Thuringian slate mountains near the Hohenwarthe II pumped storage plant . The village is connected to the surrounding area with the district road 167. The mean altitude is 530 meters above sea level.

history

The place was first mentioned on December 14, 1413. The municipality informed that the settlement in the 11th century in the clearing already started the forests. They were probably Sorbs , because they built a round village . The place belonged to the Grafschaft Schwarzburg-Leutenberg and after its extinction from 1564 to 1918 to the supremacy of the Grafschaft or the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

St. Andrew's Church was built in 1716 after a fire. In 1830 it was renovated again and since then it has had the smallest playable baroque organ in Thuringia. After restoration, it could be heard again in 1995. In 1993/94 there was a thorough renovation of the village. In addition to conventional agriculture, there is now a large fallow deer enclosure . Hiking trails to unique scenic spots are created for tourists.

In 1997 Steinsdorf was incorporated and since then has been a place of the unified municipality of Stadt Leutenberg.
