Steinway Musical Instruments, Inc. is an umbrella company for musical instrument manufacturers.

As a result of acquisitions and company mergers, the company acquired a large number of musical instrument brands and manufacturing facilities . Its members are now finisher of wings , pianos , wind instruments , string instruments and percussion instruments on.

The company sells its products through a worldwide network of dealers to professional musicians and institutions, amateurs, students and also to orchestras and educational institutions. It does this under dozens of brand names, e.g. B. Steinway & Sons grand pianos and pianos, Bach Stradivarius trumpets, CG Conn horns, Leblanc clarinets, King trombones, Ludwig small drums and Selmer Paris saxophones.

It has a workforce of approximately 1,700 and operates 11 manufacturing facilities in the United States and Europe .

  • May 1995: Selmer Industries buys Steinway Musical Properties , the parent company of the piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons .
  • July 1996: Selmer Industries is renamed Steinway Musical Instruments .
  • August 1996: Steinway Musical Instruments carries out an IPO .
  • January 1997: Acquisition of Emerson , manufacturer of flutes .
  • December 1998: Acquisition of Kluge Klaviaturen , German manufacturer of keyboards in Remscheid .
  • March 1999: Acquisition of Steinway Hall in New York City , a prominent piano sales area with a concert hall.
  • November 1999: Acquisition of The OS Kelly Company , manufacturer of piano frame castings.
  • January 2000: Acquisition of Pianohaus Karl Lang , Munich, dealer a. a. from Steinway.
  • September 2000: Acquisition of United Musical Instruments , manufacturer of brass instruments .
  • January 2003: Merger of the Selmer Company and United Musical Instruments into one unit under the name Conn-Selmer .
  • August 2004: Acquisition of G. Leblanc , manufacturer of brass instruments.
  • May 2008: purchase of ArkivMusic , online sale of classical music.
